A Unique Clarete, Reflection of the Past

A Unique Clarete, Reflection of the Past

Using an ancient cultivation technique and following the winemaking methods of their ancestors, Bodegas Sinforiano produces a modern and unique clarete, an authentic reflection of the past.

For centuries, different grape varieties were planted together in the same vineyard: mixed according to ripening time, acidity, color, and even use. On one hand, this ensured that an entire year’s harvest would not be lost if environmental conditions affected one or more grape varieties. It was a way of maintaining consistent quality long before technological advances made things easier.

On the other hand, in regions such as Cigales, this practice allowed the production of claretes, with the ideal varieties already blended in the vineyard. Today, this is known as “field blends.”

For Bodegas Sinforiano, these field blends represent a distinctive and expressive way of showcasing a vineyard’s terroir and honoring tradition. They also provide wines with unparalleled balance, harmony, and complexity.

When it comes to rosés, Bodegas Sinforiano is a true benchmark. This winery from Mucientes offers different creations crafted from various grape varieties and techniques, always delivering attractive, delicate, and refreshing wines. This is possible thanks to harvests carried out specifically for rosé winemaking and to a gentle, non-extractive vinification process that preserves primary aromas and flavors.

In its tireless pursuit of producing wines of the highest quality, Bodegas Sinforiano presents Líala Clarete, with the intention of “honoring the memory of our history, the respect we feel for our land, and the devotion we profess to our ancestors.”

This wine was born from the desire to craft a clarete following the methods used by their forefathers, aided by modern techniques:

“We selected two small vineyards planted between 1920 and 1930; at that time, vineyards in the area were planted by mixing white and red grape varieties to produce claretes, so the grapes could macerate together from the moment they entered the winery. All varieties (Garnacha Tinta, Verdejo, Garnacha Gris, Palomino, Albillo, Garnacha Tintorera, Godello, and Tempranillo) are vinified together in Spanish wooden vats (not oak), where the wine was later aged on its lees for 8 months.”

The result is a wine that leaves no one indifferent: complex, fresh, elegant, and expressive. It clearly carries echoes of the past while adding a modern dimension, embodying what are now known as the fascinating field blends.

These trendy bottles are in fact part of a long-standing tradition. Field blends are enjoying a revival. There is something romantic in their heritage, authenticity, and tradition. At a time when many wine consumers value non-interventionist or pre-industrial winemaking, field blends strike an appealing chord of legacy and tradition.
